Deira & Mirdif City Centre partner with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority to provide school essentials for students in need
Malls join nationwide campaign to donate 5,000 boxes of stationery items in recognition of Zayed Humanitarian Day
Dubai, UAE, 14 September 2013 – As children across Dubai and the UAE prepare to go back to school, Deira and Mirdif City Centres have partnered with Dubai’s education regulator, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) to give shoppers the opportunity to donate boxes of stationery and school supplies to needy children in the UAE and abroad.
Running until September 14th at Mirdif City Centre’s Central Galleria and from September 16th-22nd, at the Metro Link at City Centre Deira, shoppers can collect empty ‘Back to School Boxes’ complete with a checklist of items, such as lunch boxes, colouring pencils and paints, pens, rulers, geometry sets and folders, as suggestions for donations. Boxes are labelled into three groups: kindergarten, primary and secondary.
Once filled and returned, the ‘Back to School Boxes’ will be distributed to families and students in need by KHDA and the Department of Islamic Affairs. With an aim to collect 5,000 boxes, Deira and Mirdif City Centres are doing their part in helping to promote equal opportunity for the world’s future scholars.
“As family-oriented shopping malls, Deira and Mirdif City Centre have supported the back-to-school season with value-added shopping deals and family entertainment, and we are pleased to extend this commitment by helping those students less fortunate,” said Fuad Sharaf, Senior Director – Property Development, Shopping Malls for Majid Al Futtaim Properties.
“The ‘Back to School Boxes’ initiative by KHDA will help needy families prepare for school, and we encourage our shoppers to donate everyday school essentials towards the cause.”
Hind Al Mualla, Chief of Engagement at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, said: “The start of a new academic year is always an exciting time, and we wanted to begin this one by doing good deeds for others, as Sheikh Zayed encouraged us to. We are keen to bring the education community, including parents and students, together to work towards a cause that is precious to all of us.”
The ‘Back to School Boxes’ campaign is part of the Zayed Humanitarian Day initiative, which continues Sheikh Zayed’s legacy of humanitarian work.
